Learning Through Music & Technology
MadJam 2003
This summer MassImpact, in collaboration with the Learning Community
Group, hosted the first MadJam at five technology centers throughout
Roxbury and Dorchester. Utilizing handheld music studios called
MadPlayers™ and LCG’s Learning Through Music and Technology
program, over 100 children ages 5-16 composed and recorded their
own original music while learning to read and write rhythmic notation.
LTMT 2003
In the fall, the program was continued at select technology centers
in the form of an out of school program. Students with little to
no prior musical training learned the basics of reading, writing,
and performing rhythmic notation with a focus on algebraic thinking
and language arts. LCG also assessed the students with by administering
a written and oral test, the results of which were entered into
an e-portfolio for tracking student progress and achievement.
